CROS EXPERTS PRESENT ORIGINAL IN-HOUSE RESEARCH

16 April

On April 16, the CROS team presented the “National Index of Anxieties”, the first quarterly rating of phobias of the Russian population based on the analysis of the traditional and social media.

The presentation was held at the “Platform” social project planning center. The “National Index of Anxieties” reveals the phobias and fears dominating in the society and formed by the media and personal experience of Russians. The high urgency of the particular topic and the depth of discussion are revealed by the sub-index of phobia experience. It allows to range the revealed phobias and to decompose them into current and essential ones on the one hand, and pseudo-phobias on the other.

“There is a popular but incorrect division of the Russian population into two groups: the first one consumes information from TV, the other prefers online media. However, it is largely one and the same population. We develop our view of the world around us basing on the mass media materials, while things that concern us personally we discuss in the social media. Today, there’s hardly anybody who does not share his or her anxieties online. For analysts, such a behavior allows to investigate into personal phobias and to understand what really worries us,” said Peter Kirian, CROS Director for Media Projects.
